This Time Last Year
June 22nd was Oscar's due date. Back then he was still being called 'Busy' because he was such a fireball in there. That morning I posted this, and then a few hours later we started having a baby. I don't think I ever said much here about how this guy arrived. A year later it is a collection of crystal clear moments that start with me telling B that I couldn't get comfortable lying down and end with me holding Oscar and B in a tangled embrace while throwing up my one free arm and shouting "woo hoo!" to the entire room. Oscar was a natural birth, fast and hard, something like nine hours total and three of those were spent pushing. As it turns out pushing a ten pound baby out is not easy, frankly it was extremely hard and here is some very funny proof. Our midwife was amazing, B was unflappable and adoring and just the right amount of encouraging, and I mostly felt strong and ready and if not relaxed then very, very calm.
I know his birthday is officially tomorrow, but in as much as his birthdays will always be a time when I remember what it was like to birth him, today is my birth day. I love you baby boy, and I love you B.

There Will Be Boogers
There's a new camera at our house. The babs is too fast and our house too deficient in light for our old point and shoot. I realized that I had stopped taking photographs because of this, and I missed it very much. Right out of the box and in super low light it rocked my socks. Excited.

Shoes, No Socks
Happy summer feet.
What a great week.
We all got better.
My husband had a birthday on Monday and we enjoyed the phujeezus out of his day.
It got unbearably hot so we went swimming many times and now it's a tiny bit cooler and wow that's nice.
We planted eggplants and peppers.
Oscar has started signing for milk. Oh my, what a thing to be talked to, to have him look straight at me and make this request. At first I wanted to nurse him whenever he made the sign so that he knew I knew, but then he started goofing with me a little so I learned the sign for later. When I sign it he laughs. He is a mischievous little guy, my imp.
We're having a bánh mì meets barbeque extravaganza supper with some great people this weekend. I am going to be pickling things and baking a cake and B is going to be baking baguettes.
I owe you all a recipe for sweet vermouth, we made some flipping tasty stuff. We're still tinkering with the dry vermouth but we'll get there.
Have great weekends out there.
